The Import/Export feature moves objects from one App to another or one tenant to another.

The Import/Export utility (Release utility) allows exporting all the objects of a single App to a file and read from the file to import the included objects to another App.

Following objectives can be achieved:

• Import/Export the entire App.
• Import/Export only selected objects from the App.
• Choose to override the objects, if already existing while importing.
• Upgrade previously imported objects.

Secure vault key values and Jiffy table data are not migrated.

Export Feature

Export is an option to save an App as a zip file so that it can be imported in a different App or Tenant. To use this feature, do the following:

1. Click the button of the required App on the App Summary page.
   
2. Click the Export option. The export zip file is downloaded with all the objects of that App.
   

Import Feature

Import is an option used to bring the objects to another App in the same tenant or another tenant.

You can import the complete App or required objects to a new App or to an existing App.

Importing to New App

Importing to a new app can be done in 2 ways:

• Import All: Import all the objects from an App.
• Custom Import: Import only the required objects.

Import All

To import all the objects from an App, do the following:

1. Click the Import button in the required App category.

2. In the Import App window, click the Import All (1) button and click the CONTINUE(2) button.

3. Drag and drop the required ZIP file or Click the Browse button to select the exported ZIP file to be uploaded.

4. Once the selected exported zip file is uploaded completely, enter the name of the App in the App Name field and click the IMPORT button.

   To change the uploaded zip file, click on the Cancel button and repeat the steps to upload a different zip file.

A new App is created with the given name and the imported files under that App category.

Custom Import

Here, only the specific or required objects can be imported into the new App or instance. To import only the specific files, do the following:

1. Click the Import button in the required App category.
   

2. In the Import App window, click the Custom Import (3) button and click the CONTINUE (4) button.

3. In the Import Wizard, follow the onscreen instructions and complete these steps:

   1. Step 1: Import Zip

      • Drag and drop the required ZIP file or Click on the Browse button (5) to select the exported ZIP file to be uploaded.
      • Once the selected exported zip file is uploaded completely (100%), enter the name of the App in the App Name field (6) and Click on the NEXT button(7).

        To change the uploaded zip file, Click on the Cancel button and repeat the steps to upload a different zip file.

   2. Step 2: Tasks

      • Here, all the tasks that are in the exported zip file are listed.
      • Select the tasks that need to be imported and uncheck the others. All the dependent objects of the tasks are selected automatically.
      • Click the NEXT button.

   3. Step 3: Templates

      • Here, all the templates of type XML, CSV, JSON for the selected tasks in the exported zip file are listed and are checked automatically.

      • Uncheck the Templates if the import is not required.

        In case of dependent templates, both parent template and the child template need to be checked. If a child template is checked and the parent template is not, then an error message is thrown.

      • Click the NEXT button.

   4. Step 4: Components

      • Here in the exported zip file, all Excel macros and UI components for the selected tasks are listed in two tabs, Excel Macros, and UI Components, and automatically checked.
      • Uncheck the Components if the import is not required.
      • Click the NEXT button.

   5. Step 5: UI Controls

      • Here, all the UI Controls of the UI nodes used for the selected tasks in the exported zip file are listed and are checked automatically.

      • Uncheck the UI Controls if the import is not required.

        The UI Controls are uniquely identified by using the combination of its App name, Module name, type of automation and the UI Control name to differentiate the UI Controls having the same name in different tasks of the same Application.

      • Click the NEXT button.

   6. Step 6: Functions

      • Here, all the Functions used for the selected tasks in the exported zip file are listed and are checked automatically.

      • Uncheck the Functions if the import is not required.

        The functions are uniquely identified by the function name along with its type (Custom) to differentiate the functions having the same name in different tasks of the same Application.

      • Click the NEXT button.

   7. Step 7: Vault

      • Here, all the secure vault keys used for the selected tasks in the exported zip file are listed and are checked automatically.
      • Uncheck the secure vault keys if the import is not required.
      • Click the NEXT button.

        Whenever the Secure Key is imported, the Share this with property is changed to Global Audience even if it was shared with Specific People in the App you are exporting from.

   8. Step 8: Presentations

      • Here, all the Presentations in the exported zip file are listed.
      • Check the Presentations required to import.
      • Click on the NEXT button.

   9. Step 9: User roles

      • Here, all the User roles in the exported zip file are listed.
      • Check the User roles required to import.
      • Click on the NEXT button.

   10. Step 10: Models

       • Here, all the Models used for the selected tasks in the exported zip file are listed and are checked automatically.
       • Uncheck the Models if the import is not required.
       • Click on the NEXT button.

   11. Step 11: Filesets

       • Here, all the Filesets used for the selected tasks in the exported zip file are listed and are checked automatically.
       • Uncheck the Filesets if the import is not required.
       • Click on the NEXT button.

   12. Step 12: Config

       • Here, all the Clusters and Configurations used for the selected tasks in the exported zip file are listed in two tabs, Clusters and Configurations are checked automatically.
       • Uncheck the Clusters and Configurations if the import is not required.
       • Click on the NEXT button.

   13. Step 13: Datasets

       • Here, all the Datasets used for the selected tasks in the exported zip file are listed and are checked automatically.
       • Uncheck the Datasets if the import is not required.

         Only the structure of the Datasets is migrated with the Form Settings for the selected datasets.

         

4. Click the MIGRATE DATA AND IMPORT button once the import setup is completed.

   First, all the Datasets migrate, then only other objects start getting imported. Also, even if anyone object fails to get imported, the entire import process terminates.

5. In the Import Process Validation popup, click the CONFIRM button. All the objects selected under each entity are imported successfully to the instance.

   The user is prompted to take a backup of the existing files, if required.

   

6. In the Import Summary popup, click the DOWNLOAD REPORT button to download a text file having the complete details of all the objects that got imported, not imported.
   On the screen the count of the objects imported, overwritten, and not imported objects are displayed.

7. Click the DONE button in the Import Summary popup to close the import wizard.

   Once the importing is completed, the new app is created under that App category. This can be seen on the App Summary page.

Importing To An Existing App

1. In the App Summary page, click the icon of the app that the files must be imported to.
2. In the menu, click the Import option.
3. In the Import Process popup, click on the PROCEED button.

   The user is prompted to take a backup of the existing files, if required.

   
4. Repeat the process explained here to Import All or Custom Import the required files.

   The Import All option overwrites the objects in the importing instance irrespective of the objects existing or not.
